Source:Vedomosti From:Taiwan Trade Center, Moscow Update Time:2023/05/11

By the end of 2022, Marvel Distribution sold 4,331,877 smartphones. With the total volume of the Russian market of 24.2 million devices, the distributor's contribution amounted to an impressive share of 18% (year-on-year growth was 3%). Thus, almost every fifth smartphone sold last year reached the buyer thanks to Marvel.

The volume of the Russian smartphone market fell by 21% in units and by 27% in money year on year. In 2021, 29.9 million smartphones worth 763.5 billion rubles were sold, in 2022 — 24.2 million units worth 551.3 billion rubles.

Xiaomi (along with the Redmi sub-brand) came out on top in terms of the number of smartphones sold by the end of 2022, taking a market share of 27.6% (in units), followed by Samsung (18.5%), realme (13.8%), Apple (10.2%) and Tecno (7.8%). In money, Apple managed to maintain leadership with 187 billion rubles (33.9% of the market) and Samsung – 111.4 billion (20.2%). Xiaomi closes the top three with 105.8 billion (19.2%). These three brands occupy almost three quarters of the entire Russian smartphone market in monetary terms. Completing the top five are realme – 45.8 billion rubles (8.3% of the market) and Poco – 20.4 billion (3.7%).

Over the year, the average price of a smartphone in Russia decreased by 7.7% and amounted to 22,300 rubles. The decrease in the average cost was due to the departure of A-brands with expensive flagships, the strengthening of the ruble, as well as due to the fact that buyers reduced the costs of unnecessary spending, preferring more budget models.

One of the main trends of 2022 was the refusal of buyers from cheaper smartphones. The segment of models up to 10 thousand rubles is rapidly shrinking. The Russian consumer has become more mature and now wants to have a high-quality device from the middle price category with modern technical characteristics.

It is also worth noting the technological progress of Chinese brands. All significant smartphone manufacturers have actively developed the characteristics of their flagship models almost to the level of leaders Samsung and Apple. In 2022, the trend for smartphones with a folding, sliding or flexible screen was finally formed. Such gadgets are now available not only from Samsung and Huawei, but also from Xiaomi, VIVO, ZTE, Tecno, Oppo and other manufacturers. All of them have already presented their new products, and in 2023 they promise to put them on the market. So far, all folding models are presented in the upper price segment and do not account for a significant share in sales, but this year the trend towards their popularization and cost reduction will continue.
