Project proposals for interregional connectivity between Bulgaria and two neighbors

Project proposals under two interregional programs for the period 2021-2027 will be financed with more than 21 million €- one between Bulgaria - North Macedonia and another between Bulgaria and Turkey. The total budget of the program with North Macedonia is 8,143,233 €, and of the one with Turkey - 13,423,529 €. This is part of the new project proposals under the two programs, which have already been published on the website of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the Ministry announced. The deadline for submission of concepts is July 24, 2023.

Under Interreg Bulgaria - North Macedonia, the focus will be on tourism. The cross-border region of the program covers the districts of Blagoevgrad and Kyustendil and the North-Eastern, Eastern and South-Eastern regions of the Republic of North Macedonia. Ideas will be sought for projects that contribute to the creation of an attractive, year-round tourism product in these areas, with the objectives being to increase connectivity between the two countries, to carry out good marketing of tourism products in the cross-border region, to increase employment in the tourism sector and the links between tourism and natural-cultural sites are strengthened.

The Interreg Bulgaria-Turkey program will seek projects that contribute to the achievement of sustainable and inclusive economic growth based on increased competitiveness of the local economy, digital and green transformation. The cross-border region of the program covers the regions of Burgas, Yambol, Haskovo and the Turkish provinces of Edirne and Kirklareli.

Projects may involve local/regional bodies and authorities (including regional structures of central public bodies); small and medium enterprises; NGOs; academic, research, training and cultural institutions. All project partners should be registered and working in the program area for at least 3 years prior to application. The partnership should consist of at least one partner from each side of the border region.
