Russian car market grew 2.5 times in June

The passenger car market continued to grow in June: 82.4 thousand cars were sold, which is 2.5 times more than a year ago. The demand is fueled by the exchange rate dynamics and the expansion of model ranges — Lada Vesta, which returned to the market, immediately entered the top of the best-selling models. But the leadership among AVTOVAZ brands is still provided by the budget Granta, and Chery and Haval are the most popular among foreign cars.

Sales of passenger cars in June increased 2.5 times, to 82.4 thousand units, calculated "Autostat" based on the data of the "Electronic passport". This is 14.2% higher than the May result, when demand sagged slightly due to long holidays. According to the results of the first half of the year, sales are growing by 14% — 401.6 thousand cars were sold.

Kommersant expected the demand to remain at the level of about 80 thousand cars in the summer months, despite the fact that this is traditionally a low period for the market. This is facilitated, among other things, by the dynamics of the exchange rate, which encourages buyers to hurry with the purchase, as well as the growth of the variety of models. Lada Vesta reappeared in the Autostat model rating for June, sales of which started last month. However, its sales are still significantly lower than Granta (2.3 thousand and 15.9 thousand, respectively). Although before the crisis and the suspension of production in Izhevsk, Vesta repeatedly led the top sales.

Lada continues to be the bestseller of the market in June: its sales tripled to 23.8 thousand cars.

AvtoVAZ itself estimated its own sales higher, reporting their growth by 3.7 times, up to 27.8 thousand cars, but these data also take into account light commercial vehicles.

The most popular foreign brand is Chinese Chery. Its sales over the past month increased 4.3 times, to 10.1 thousand cars. The top 10 of the market also included the sub-brands Chery — Exeed (3.6 times growth, up to 3.1 thousand units) and Omoda (almost 3.4 thousand cars sold). All these three brands report their sales through the Association of European Businesses (AEB) only quarterly, not monthly. In third place in terms of sales in June — Haval, the sale of which increased by 5.2 times, to 8.3 thousand units. Next come Geely (4.2 times growth, up to 6.9 thousand cars) and Changan (21.7 times growth, up to 3.5 thousand). Among the brands not from China, Kia, Hyundai and Toyota entered the top 10, although these cars are not officially delivered to the Russian Federation now. Unlike AEB, Autostat provides data on the sale of cars imported into the Russian Federation bypassing official importers — by parallel import. The share of such machines on the market in recent months was 12-14%.
