After a year of shortage in Russia auto parts have fallen in price

The main reasons for the shortage of spare parts are currency volatility, the impossibility of transparent pricing and logistics problems, including a shortage of shipping containers. In general, Kommersant writes, dealers hope that the problem with the shortage of spare parts and rising prices will be solved by parallel imports, which were resolved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In 2022, among the car brands, original spare parts increased the most in price for Ford (by 83%). Also, components for Subaru rose by 48%, by 44% — for Mercedez-Benz, by 41% — for BMW, by 39% — for Audi, by 34% — for Mitsubishi, by 34% — for Renault, by 33% — for Volvo, by 31% - for Skoda.

Less than 30% was the increase in the price of spare parts for Mazda (29%), Lada (27%), Volkswagen (26%), Nissan (25%), Kia (24%).

Roman Timashov from Avtodom Altufevo noted that the market reacts to the shortage of a demanded position by a multiple increase in price. According to him, for some positions at certain times the prices exceeded the recommended six times.

"The increase in prices for spare parts by an average of 30%  led to the fact that many market players offer an additional payment for existing casco (hull insurance) policies of about 20-40%. This allows you to keep the volume of insurance coverage at the same level and avoid cases in which a client, even if he has not severely damaged an expensive part of the car, may be faced with the fact that his vehicle will be recognized as non—recoverable," Ivan Mironenko, CEO of Tinkoff Insurance, commented on the situation.

By the spring of 2023, the situation with the availability of spare parts has changed somewhat.

"So many spare parts have been dragged that you can at least assemble cars," he said kp.ru Vice-President of the National Automobile Union Anton Shaparin.

- The only difficulty is the engine and automatic transmission control units. This is high electronics, it is under sanctions ( https://www.kp.ru/daily/27479/4736105 /)

There is no shortage of spare parts for the current repair of the engine, suspension, bodies for Korean cars, for domestic, for Chinese... - lists the technical director of Fit Service Andrey Ruzanov

Moreover, the vast majority of these are spare parts from the manufacturer or authorized companies. But with the original parts for cars from countries that joined the sanctions, the situation is worse. The most problematic brands, according to insurers, are BMW, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Volvo, GM, Lexus, Porsche, Chevrolet.

- There are difficulties with the original windshields, body parts, - continues Ruzanov. - It is no accident that insurance companies no longer send their customers' cars affected by an accident for repair, but compensate for the costs with money. Because insurance companies must provide original spare parts, and in many cases this is impossible.

Russian motorists have also begun to face a shortage of high-quality motor oils: there are not enough additives (additives) needed for their production in the country. Until February 2022, slightly less than two-thirds of the demand for additives in the Russian Federation was provided by imports, more complex additives were 90% foreign at all.

The problem with glasses is solved without leaving the country — good glasses for almost all foreign cars are made at the Bor Glass Factory. No worse than the original.

Deliveries of non-original spare parts help out in such a situation. But these are not parts carved in a garage somewhere in China or Vietnam. They are made at the factory, but without the official permission of the automaker. On the one hand, it is essentially a counterfeit. On the other hand, an unoriginal spare part often allows you to get out of the situation if you need to replace it.

It's even good that a lot of unoriginal nodes have gone," he said kp.ru autoexpert partner of the company "Autostat" Igor Morzharetto. - Because original spare parts are sometimes much more expensive. For motorists, the advice is simple: pick up components and components from those companies that you know and trust. And let them look for components - they are also responsible for what will happen to the car in case of repair.

In-demand car parts have fallen in price by 30-40% over the year. Parts are supplied mainly from the United Arab Emirates and China. This was stated in an interview with Izvestia by the head of the Russian Union of Motor Insurers (RSA) Evgeny Ufimtsev.

"Since the autumn of 2022, the situation has started to stabilize, but not for all cars. Spare parts for a number of car brands began to become cheaper and more affordable. Among such brands are Audi, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi and Nissan," the expert said.

"At the same time, the average price level for spare parts has almost stabilized and exceeds the values of the beginning of 2022 by 21-25%," Ufimtsev said, stressing that recent fluctuations in the ruble exchange rate have not yet affected the cost of parts.

In the spring of 2023, it was reported that an industry for the restoration of used auto parts may appear in Russia. The government instructed the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Economic Development to consider the possibility of creating such a system, since due to the shutdown of the production of all foreign cars in the country, except Chinese, the automotive industry faced a shortage of components.
