Tablet sales in Russia in the first half of 2024 increased by 32% in monetary terms and by 29% in unit terms compared to the same period in 2023, M.video-Eldorado calculated. In the first six months, Russians bought 1.1 million tablets worth 23 billion rubles. The top 5 brands in unit and monetary terms include Huawei and Honor from China, South Korean Samsung, American Apple and Chinese Xiaomi, along with the Redmi brand, the retailer cites.

Similar data is provided by the IT holding Fplus. According to the company, from January to May, 1.15 million devices worth 23.1 billion rubles were sold in the country. A year earlier, sales for the first five months amounted to 17.5 billion rubles, the representative of the company said.

An Ozon representative confirmed the trend. "Sales of tablets on Ozon increased by 65% in units and 47% in money in the first half of the year," said a company representative. –Xiaomi, Huawei, Redmi and Blackview brands (all from China) showed the greatest growth."

According to M.video, the increase in demand was influenced by new models of Honor, Samsung, and Apple gadgets, as well as an active increase in demand for Russian tablets. In the first half of the year, in monetary terms, sales of Russian tablets increased by 17% compared to the same period last year to 1.28 billion rubles.

A representative of Fplus confirmed that in monetary terms, sales of Russian tablets increased in the period from January to May 2024. According to the company, in five months this figure increased by about 9% year-on-year and amounted to 1.2 billion rubles, he said. A year ago, during this period, devices of domestic brands were sold in the amount of 1.1 billion rubles.

But the interlocutor notes that, despite the growth in monetary terms, in units, sales of Russian brands decreased by 16% year-on-year. From January to May 2024, 150,000 tablets of domestic brands were sold at retail, including gadgets from retailers' own brands. A year earlier, 179,000 devices were sold during the same period. The share of Russian brands in total is 13% of the total number of tablets sold in units. A year earlier, they occupied 18% of the market, the representative of the company said.

"The decisive factor in choosing a Russian tablet for a buyer is an affordable price,– says Artur Makhlaiuk, a business analyst at Marvel Distribution. "But Chinese brands are updating their product lines faster, gradually offering devices at a comparable cost, but with more advanced features, which also affects the demand for Russian tablets."

The share of Russian brands in total is 13% of the total number of tablets sold in units. A year earlier, they occupied 18% of the market, the representative of the company said.

Domestic tablets are increasingly used in their work by educational institutions and enterprises, says Sergey Zaraisky, head of the Computers and Tablets department of the M.video-Eldorado group. Makhlayuk agrees that a significant proportion of Russian brand tablets are supplied to customers from the public sector and the b2b segment. "According to our estimate, the number of such devices is about 20,000 units per year," he said.   In addition to the growth in tablet sales, the volume of sales of laptops is also increasing – both foreign and domestic production. As Vedomosti wrote in July, citing data from M.video-Eldorado, laptop sales in Russia in the first half of 2024 increased by 30% in monetary terms and by 14% in unit terms compared to the same period last year. In just six months, Russians purchased 1.4 million laptops worth 94 billion rubles.

The share of domestic laptop brands increased by 53.6% over the year, according to experts from Marvel Distribution. According to the company, 117,700 laptops of Russian brands were sold in the first half of 2023, and 180,700 in the first six months of this year. The share of domestic brands in the laptop market is now 12.9%. "This means that every ninth device sold in our country has Russian roots," the company representative stressed. "The most popular brands are Fplus, Dexp, ICL, Digma, Echips, Osio, Irbis."

In addition, the share of domestic monitors in the market in the first three months of 2024 reached 10%, analysts of the electronics distributor OCS estimated. Two years ago, this figure did not exceed 1%, the representative of the company told me. The most notable domestic monitor manufacturers on the market are Beshtau, Graviton, Aquarius, Delta Computers and LightCom, he said.

Russian laptops, like tablets and monoblocks, will gradually become business equipment, because the government will legislatively stimulate such a transition, and retailers will not be able to ensure massive stable purchases and full-fledged maintenance of corporate laptops in conditions of parallel imports, the editor-in-chief of  Ferra.ru Evgeny Kharitonov.
