New Time Out Market in Spain located in Maremagnum Barcelona

Time Out is a British news media and hospitality group. They cover events, entertainment and culture and operate all around the world. The original Time Out started as a physical magazine in 1968, and has now expanded to 333 cities and 59 countries.

Time Out Market is a gastronomic and cultural market started by the company Time Out in 2014 in Lisbon. Numerous markets have been opened around the world since then, for example in New York, Boston, Montreal, Dubai, etc. A Time Out Market just opened in Porto this year, while the newest one will be in Barcelona, on July 5th, in the shopping mall Maremagnum. The investment for this project amounted to 13 million Euro. The space will extend over 5.250 square meters and is located on the shopping mall’s terrace. 

It will be open every day of the year from 10 AM until midnight, except for Christmas. The space will consist of 14 kitchens, one restaurant, four bars, an event area and a podcast studio. As is tradition in Spain, they will present classic dishes in “tapas” format (a small serving of food as a snack to eat while drinking), except for the one restaurant, which will serve a regular menu. 

What restaurants will we find here

The food will vary from well-known cooks to new talents, classic local restaurants from Barcelona and food from all over the world beloved by all. Two of them must be singled out, chef Jordi Artal (owner of Michelin star restaurant “Cinc Sentits”), who has two Michelin stars, and chef Fran López, also a two Michelin star winner.

The other proposals from Time Out Market will be classic Barcelona restaurants such as Can Ros, Casa Amàlia, Casa Guinart, with traditional Catalonian food from the region, or from other regions in Spain, like RíasKRU and La Real Hamburguesería.

Time Out Market have committed themselves not to raise the regular prices from these well-known restaurants and bars, as not to become another “tourist trap” in this city threatened by mass tourism. Their motto is “The best from the city under the same roof”.

The market follows a model with large tables in the center, giving customers the chance to try different small plates from all the options around them. What’s more, it will have a cultural program for the whole year, with local talents, DJs, and family activities for children. Adding to the cultural scene, two local artists (Marina Capdevila and Amaia Arrazola) have been commissioned to create murals representing Barcelona’s essence for the Market’s terraces.

Looking ahead, the next cities that are planning to open a Time Out Market are Osaka, Vancouver, Bahrain and Budapest.
