The German retailer Penny is starting an investment of 35 million euros in Giurgiu County, where it has started work on the newest warehouse in the country, in Mihăileşti.

Penny has planned one-billion-euro investments in Romania

"Romania is an important market for us, that's why we have planned investments of over 1 billion euros until 2029, mainly by expanding the store network to a total of 619 Penny stores and 6 logistics centers. The start of work on the fifth Penny warehouse in the country is an important step in this direction", said Daniel Gross, CEO of Penny Romania.

The Mihăileşti Penny warehouse will have almost 200 employees

This will be the fifth Penny warehouse in Romania, after those in Ştefăneştii de Jos, Turda, Bacău and Filiaşi. The works will be completed during 2025.

The new warehouse in Mihăileşti will have a team of approximately 200 people and will cover an area of 22,000 square meters, on a plot of 120,000 square meters.

The logistics center will serve 70 stores by the end of 2025 and 100 stores by the end of 2027.

The warehouse will have photovoltaic panels installed.

Heating will be provided by heat recovery from the cold (depending on availability), but also by heat pumps from the industrial cold system, so that the new warehouse will achieve CO2 neutrality at the heating level.

Penny has planned investments of over one billion euros until 2029

"We strategically chose to build the new warehouse in Mihăilești, Giurgiu County, due to the potential for expansion and the existing road infrastructure, with the objective that, once operational, it will serve 70 stores by the end of 2025 and 100 stores by the end of 2027", stated the CEO of Penny Romania.

Penny now has four logistics centers strategically located in various regions of the country: Ștefănești de Jos, Turda, Bacău and Filiași, designed for the proximity requirements of stores in the region.
