Evolution DC Thailand Co, a joint venture between Central Pattana Plc (CPN) and Evolution Data Centres, aims to develop a data centre business to help Thailand become a digital hub for Asean.

The company on Monday announced a collaboration with state telecom enterprise National Telecom (NT).

Phoom Chirathivat, head of alternative investments at CPN, said the collaboration with NT will help support CPN's business ecosystem to be strong and sustainable. "NT's comprehensive telecommuni- cation network services and digital infrastructure will help the data centre business to fully support connections with network service providers and reach large corporate customers," he said.

It was noted that CPN has strengths and expertise in developing projects in strategic locations that meet the needs of various businesses.

The development of the data centre project is in Bangkok's Bang Na area. Mr Phoom added that the location offers a suitable environment with diverse connectivity options, high-security measures, and proximity to power sources.

"We can provide services to both hyperscalers and build-to-suit customers which will transform Bang Na into a hotspot for data centre businesses. Our goal is to launch the first phase of services around 2026," he said.

Darren Webb, chief executive of Evolution Data Centres, said working with NT ensured that the data centre project will have comprehensive fibre connectivity that includes terrestrial and submarine cable networks.

"With support from NT, we are confident the cooperation from all three parties will be an important part in developing and elevating Thailand towards Thailand's 4.0 digital transformation," he said.

Seikson Mitkasem, NT's senior executive vice-president for marketing and products, said the new partnership would provide comprehensive data exchange and connectivity services and strengthen the country's telecommunication business.

"This will position Thailand as a centre for information exchange and communications at the regional level and upgrade the country's digital infrastructure to keep pace with current trends and the needs of users," he said.
