Czech energy giant ČEZ plans to build a total of 150 battery storage facilities from Škoda Auto old electric car batteries within the next 3 years, a good way to offer old or damaged batteries a new life. The total capacity of these facilities will be 45-megawatt hours, which will double the total capacity in the Czech Republic.

Batteries from electric vehicles can be recycled 97 percent of the time, according to Škoda X, but the problem is that this process  takes too long and cannot yet be put into mass production in an economic way.

Therefore, Škoda Auto is currently devising ways to use batteries that are no longer used in cars. Old batteries with 70-80 percent remaining capacity can still be re-used as a stationary station supplying energy to various appliances.

One such a storage facility, which CEZ will install in the coming years, will use the amount of battery cells that corresponds to the batteries of five Škoda Enyaq vehicles.

According to Škoda Auto, most of the batteries will go into battery storage right from the factory. In operation, it is shown that the life of the batteries is relatively decent, and therefore, there will not be enough batteries to last in the cars during the next three years.

Such recylce and reuse is part of the car company's devotion to getting closer to the goal of complete decarbonization by 2050. Currently, part of the plan of Škoda Auto is that they use a photovoltaic power plant on the roof of the development center in Kosmonosy. The plant consists of 6,500 panels, and can produce energy to cover a quarter of its consumption.
