The Catalan company leads the consortium that will expand the infrastructure by 1.4 kilometers for 29 million. A consortium led by Comsa has been awarded the extension of line M1 of the Palma Metro. Specifically, it is the extension between the station of the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB), where the infrastructure now ends, and the one known as Parc Bit.

The Catalan company has teamed up with the Basque company Tecsa, which specialized in rail transport, and the local firm Mab Obras Públicas, based in Binissalem, and the construction company Coexa, from Capdepera. The consortium has won the work for a price of 28.9 million euros (without VAT), 7% below the bidding amount. Nine proposals were submitted to the contest. The execution period is twelve months, according to the insular Government.

The new layout will be 1.4 kilometers long and will run partly on the surface, partly in a trench, and partly underground. This extension aims to increase the number of passengers on the line by 25% and encourage the use of public transport in an area with some 3,000 workers and where private cars have a share of 85%. The estimated travel time between the two extremes -Plaza España and Parc Bit, separated by about 10 kilometers- will be fifteen minutes. One of the controversies of the Palma Metro is the high cost of infrastructure in relation to its low level of use. In the works of the first section, Comsa was in charge of the categories. Within the field of public transport, Comsa's services division is in charge of maintaining the technological equipment and communications systems of the Consorci de Transports de Mallorca.
